Frequently asked questions
When can I enroll in health insurance?
Open Enrollment runs November 1 – January 15 on the federal marketplace (dates vary by state). You can also enroll during a Special Enrollment Period triggered by a qualifying life event (job loss, marriage, birth, move, etc.).
Do I qualify for a health insurance subsidy?
Premium Tax Credit eligibility depends on household income, household size, access to employer coverage, tax filing, and the rules in effect for the coverage year. Marketplace rules and income thresholds can change.
Can I keep my doctor on an ACA plan?
It depends on the plan's network. We always check whether your preferred doctors and hospitals are in-network before recommending a plan.
What is the ACA open enrollment deadline?
The federal marketplace deadline is typically January 15 for coverage starting February 1. Some state-based marketplaces have different deadlines.
What is a deductible?
Your deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for covered services before your insurance kicks in. For example, a $3,000 deductible means you pay the first $3,000 in covered care each year before insurance starts sharing costs.
Is my employer's health plan automatically better than an ACA plan?
Not always. If your employer's plan is expensive or has poor coverage, an ACA marketplace plan — especially with Premium Tax Credits — may be a better value. We can help you compare both options.
